The jackpot is the exception. The multiplier applies only to non-jackpot prizes.

How Can Matching Five Numbers Win $10 Million?
This is one of the biggest changes to the current Mega Millions.
Matching all five white balls without matching the gold Mega Ball has a base prize of $1 million.
Your assigned multiplier then determines the final prize.
With a 2X multiplier:
$1 million × 2 = $2 million
With a 5X multiplier:
$1 million × 5 = $5 million
And with the maximum 10X multiplier:
$1 million × 10 = $10 million
That makes Mega Millions one of the few major lotteries where a player can potentially win an eight-figure prize without actually winning the jackpot.
Does the Multiplier Apply to the Mega Millions Jackpot?
No.
Matching five white balls plus the gold Mega Ball wins the jackpot.
